You’ve found an item!

There are lots of opportunities to spend money at cons, but at Leprecon this year, we’ve got a weekend-long Special Event that gives you a different kind of opportunity.

In certain places about the hall, there’ll be treasure chests, These chests will be stocked with things donated from the Gamers room and from the committee. If you open the box, and there’s something in it, you can take it! But even these days, we all have more than we need. Our inventories are full. To pick up the item in the chest, you have to leave something there in return. We’re going to take this chance to clear space for new RPG books by passing on ones that don’t get the attention they deserve anymore, so if there are any at home gathering dust, bring them along and see what you might be able to find in exchange!

Good luck!

Emily,

Boardgames at Leprecon

Hello all, just an update on boardgames at Leprecon.

Along with providing the wide section of games in DU Gamers boardgame library for free play, we’ll also have a number of boardgame tournaments throughout the weekend.

Settlers of Catan Tournament
One of the most popular boardgames around, Settlers of Catan is both astonishingly easy to play, but retains deep levels of complexity. It also gave us wood for sheep jokes. We at Leprecon invite you to join us in playing this wonderful game from 11am on Saturday in a grand tournament.

Dominion Tournament
First published in 2008, Dominion is a deck-building boardgame that has taken the Irish gaming scene by storm. Draft up your deck to build a kingdom and crush your enemies beneath your iron heel. We invite all those interested in autocratic intrigue to join us on Saturday afternoon for tournament play.

Battlestar Galactica Tournament
Everyone who has been to an Irish gaming event in the past two years has probably seen this game being played. Take on the role of those in control of the Battlestar and its companion ship the Pegasus as they struggle to escape the cylon threat, whether through politics and intrigue or pure military strength. However, beware that there may be traitors among you…
It’s the admiral.
Saturday Morning

Small World Tournament
In a tiny, tiny fantasy world, there’s rarely any room for the numerous races that are likely to crop up. The result? All out war. Giants fight dwarves; elves battle tritons; and the warlocks convert their forces one by one. Empires rise and decline as the people wage battle in an attempt to conquer what little land there is. Come join us Sunday afternoon and hurl your forces in to the fray. After all, it’s a small world…

Diplomacy Tournament

Hi all, I have more exciting news about events we have planned for Leprecon.

There will a be Diplomacy Tournament running through out the weekend of the Con. It is a drop in and play system so you can play one or more games and still be in with a chance of winning. Games will be limited to 3 hours and aligned to fit the rpg/larp schedule so that everyone has a chance to play.

There is a pre-registration form below which you can fill in so the we can get a better idea of numbers in advance. If you would like to purchase tickets to the con (the tournament itself is free) you can do so at our shop.

PreReg Form

The rules for the tournament will be:

1)The tournament will be organised into 3 hour / 7 year games. (finishing with the 1908 winter adjustment)

2)Total score will be your best Supply Centre (SC) count, plus 1/2 of your second best SC count, plus 1/3 of you third best SC count.(only scores for your best three games will be counted – Players will not be required to play more than one game. Though doing so will improve their chances of winning the tournament)

3)Other than the above the standard Diplomacy rules will apply (see: The Rulebook).

4)Decisions of the Tournament Organiser are final.

The 3 hour game will facilitate fitting in with the Con schedule for rpg and larp players. Further the points system gives people who want to play one game a chance at winning the tournament without having to dedicate an entire year to playing.

Boardgame Events

One thing that we always see here at Leprecon is people playing boardgames. Since it’s a games convention that should come as no surprise. Boardgames are fun, providing entertainment to all who partake of them. Here at Leprecon, since the entertainment of our con-goers is paramount, we want to help encourage the playing of boardgames.

As usual, we’ll be opening up our library and bringing forth our vast collection of games for you, the attendees to play. We’ll also be running a number of tournaments for some of the more popular games such as Dominion, Settlers of Catan, Carcasonne and if I can persuade our special events co-ordinator to part with it: Battlestar Galactica.

So come join us here at Leprecon, sit down, meet people, and play.

Good luck, and good gaming,
Aidan Marsh, Co-ordinator of CCGs and Boardgames

CCG Events

I’ve always aimed for CCGs to be a high point of Leprecon in the past, and this year is no different. In addition to the ever-popular Kotei, we’ll be making sure to run events to keep those of you who don’t wish to fight for your clan entertained.

Starting Saturday Morning, we’ll be running a number of other CCG events, from Magic the Gathering to Yu-gi-oh, and if you want us to try to run something else for you, we’ll be happy to oblige.

In addition, we at Leprecon know that sometimes it can get boring sitting around waiting for a round to finish so that you can take up your deck for the next battle. To help to alleviate this, we’d like to introduce our Conquest of Ravnica special event: With the Guildpact broken, the factions of Ravnica have gone to war, take up your deck and duel for your guild. Bring your own decks, or use those provided, fight with honour, or backstab your opponent.

The choice is yours Good luck, and good gaming,

Aidan Marsh, Co-ordinator of CCGs and Boardgames
